Federal investment this week reached both large public programs and specialized Canadian businesses. British Columbia communities secured funding for dozens of local infrastructure projects, while new support was announced for electric-vehicle charging and education nationwide.
In the defence sector, GIT Coatings is preparing to expand production of marine coatings, and two Northern Ontario companies are scaling military pilot training and autonomous cyber-defence technology.
GIT COATINGS EXPANDS PRODUCTION FOR DEFENCE AND MARINE MARKETS
GIT Coatings will receive a $737,500 repayable federal contribution to expand production at its Dartmouth facility. The funding will support new mixing equipment for an icebreaking hull coating developed primarily for defence and security vessels, as well as specialized expertise to help the company enter more defence supply chains. The project is expected to create five jobs and increase Canadian manufacturing capacity in advanced marine coatings.

BRITISH COLUMBIA SECURES $152 MILLION FOR 54 INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS
More than $152 million will support 54 infrastructure and planning projects across British Columbia. The portfolio includes water and wastewater upgrades, a new fire hall, recreation facilities, and a first-of-its-kind Capital Regional District project that will convert wastewater biosolids into biochar. The funding is aimed at projects that are beyond the financial capacity of individual local governments.

NORTHERN ONTARIO DEFENCE FIRMS RECEIVE $2.7 MILLION
FedNor is investing $2.7 million in two defence-related projects in North Bay. ITPS Canada will receive $1.5 million to relocate its tactical training centre and establish a dedicated facility for advanced fighter-pilot preparation, while SKADI Cyber Defense Corporation will receive $1.2 million to advance its Frostbow autonomous cyber-defence system. Together, the projects are expected to create approximately 60 jobs and expand the region’s role in aerospace training and cybersecurity.
